The green roofs also reduce the heating and cooling costs by insulating the roof for both the heat of the sun, as well cold winds. The green roof also reduce the heat island effect, which is when buildings in large cities absorb the heat of the sun and release the heat through convection. This convection can raise the city's temperature over 6 degrees Fahrenheit.

Very nice, all the new high rise buildings should be built this way including all the government building since they consume and waist the most energy.
Leave it to New York to have the first green multi-family high rise ever! I love it. The coolest part is that the solar panels were incorporated into the building materials in a way that makes up a large part of the shell of the building. Ingenious.
Green roof technologies not only provide the owners of buildings with a proven return on investment, but also represent opportunities for significant social, economic and environmental benefits, particularly in cities.
Thanks for sharing this helpful and inspiring post. I appreciate it very much and it gave me an interest in shifting from metal roofs into green roofs. Good work.
